The Birch and the Star – Finnish Perspectives on the Long 19th Century

The Birch and the Star is an association of specialists on the long nineteenth century in the fields of art, music, literature and history at large which is committed to the international promotion of  research on the long nineteenth century.

The objectives of The Birch and the Star are to promote research on the long nineteenth century produced in Finland or at the invitation of Finnish institutions, to organise in Finland and abroad international symposia and seminars focused on the long nineteenth century, and to publish on the Internet proceedings and essays on the long nineteenth century produced in Finland or at the invitation of Finnish institutions, including those delivered during The Birch and the Star’s events.

The Birch and the Star organises co-operation between museums, university departments and cultural institutions in order to develop cross-disciplinary research on the long nineteenth century. It aims at representing the Finnish scholar perspectives on the long nineteenth century’s culture in international groups of specialists.
